President’s Message

Susan Sabo, NSA-PHL president 2009-2010

From Susan Sabo, NSA-PHL president 2009-2010

NSA Philadelphia is focused on bringing great things to you – our members & guests. Programs that help you build your business and enhance your professional life are the cornerstone of the NSA Philly year. While you receive that professional development you will be part of a strong and growing community. Welcome!

Credibility, Connections & Content are the key benefits of membership in NSA Philadelphia (NSA PHL).

Credibility is earned. The NSA logo may be used exclusively by NSA members. NSA membership is not a rubberstamp on an application – it is earned by proving that you are a professional level speaker. Thus, membership in NSA gives you a credibility that non-members don’t have.

Connections are made continually between those who attend meetings and those who network with fellow members. There is a community of NSA Philadelphia members. We are the people who turn to each other for support, ideas, feedback, and friendship. This is the local the gathering place of Philadelphia’s experts who speak including our historical Ben Franklin figure, Ralph Archbold and Customer Service in the Trades Expert Steve Coscia. It’s a cast of characters who make your NSA Philadelphia connections priceless!

Content is another benefit of membership of NSA PHL. Mark your calendar to attend as many meetings as you can. Our speakers are leaders in communication, marketing, and making money as experts who speak. In every session you will get ideas to implement as soon as you get back to your office. In every session you will be inspired to Raise the Bar on your skills and enterprise. And, in every session you will spend time with people who understand your business better than most others because they’re in the speaking business.

NSA PHL has a strong Board of talented & smart people who have been working hard since March ’09 to ensure the following:

  • That people you will want to hear have been invited to chapter meetings (we want to hear them, too)
  • That NSA Philly finances are strong so we can pay for the speaker programs, facilities, and our executive director to take care of a myriad of behind-the-scenes details. We have an annual operating budget of approximately $30,000.
  • That visitors are welcome and members find more value each year
  • That future years will be even better that this one (we’re Raising the Bar)

When you see the people with the black ‘Board Member’ ribbon on their name tags, please thank them for all the volunteer work they do for you via NSA PHL.

On a final note, most NSA Philly members have amped up the value they receive from the organization by getting involved beyond attending meetings. Carol Kivler convinced me to get involved on the Board during my first NSA Philly meeting.  Nine months after that first meeting I took the position of Treasurer. As such, then as Program Chair and now as President I have gotten to know more NSA members better by working with them, attending their presentations, and having one-on-one conversations. We more confidently advocate and refer each other because of those experiences. I encourage you to get more out of NSA by investigating a Board position for the future or volunteering to help with activities throughout the year.

Get to you know your fellow NSAers – you’ll be delighted by the dividends that come your way.
